About Us

Rewind Records has been supporting local music in Bloomington since 2011, but it didn't always look like a record store. Wayne Chandler started it as a label and recording studio on Sixth Street: signing artists, hosting rehearsals, teaching lessons, screen-printing merch for bands. Covid shut things down, and they pivoted to printing shirts out of the Secretly warehouse until a spot opened up in Fountain Square Mall.

The store idea itself came at the Switchyard Music Expo. Wayne went along with Ashley, got inspired, and they just went for it, opening the retail space in Suite 105 in May 2023, right next to The Briar and The Burley. Ashley's been managing and running the store ever since. It's the first thing Rewind has done that's open to the general public. Wayne's words: anyone can shop here and buy records.

Ashley co-owns it with Wayne. She's a Brown County native who's been collecting vinyl and CDs since she was 11, when she stumbled on her aunt's old turntable at a yard sale. She still is. The IDS profile caught her smiling in the shop holding Jason Molina's Lioness, one of her all-time favorites.

Today the bins hold roughly 3,000 CDs and 2,500 pieces of vinyl, mostly pre-2000, cleaned, re-sleeved, and graded to Goldmine standards. They also still design and print shirts and CD jackets for local bands.
